Lower Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra

The Symphonic Orchestra of the Lower Silesian Philharmonic is a highly regarded music ensemble which is one of the pillars of cultural life in Lower Silesia. Its origins date back to 1964, when the Social Symphony Orchestra in Jelenia Góra was established on the initiative of Stefan Strahl. The first concert took place on 20 April of the same year in the local theatre and involved teachers and students of the State Music School and members of the military orchestra. Thanks to the tremendous support of the local community and the passion of the musicians, the orchestra grew in importance and in 1976 it was transformed into a fully-fledged cultural institution - the Lower Silesian Philharmonic.

The orchestra's repertoire ranges from classical masterpieces to modern symphonic compositions, including works by such masters as Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Chopin, as well as film music and contemporary works. It regularly collaborates with renowned conductors and soloists, thereby raising the artistic level of its concerts. Thanks to its modern premises, opened in 2002, which include a concert hall with more than 300 seats, a recording studio and an art gallery, the orchestra can realise a variety of artistic projects, including chamber and symphonic concerts and educational events.

The Lower Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra actively participates in the cultural life of the region, giving concerts both in the prestigious halls of Lower Silesia and at international festivals. Its mission is to popularise classical music, inspire new generations of music lovers and artists, and continually raise performance standards. Thanks to the passion and professionalism of its musicians, the orchestra not only nurtures musical traditions, but also gives them a modern character, attracting an increasingly wide audience.
