One of the most outstanding violinists of modern times. His extraordinary virtuosity and charismatic stage personality win the hearts of audiences all over the world. Born in Budapest in 1974, he began studying the violin at the age of five. He was initially taught by his father, Jozsef Lendvay Senior. A few years later he began to have his first successes, winning first prize in a young violinist competition in the Hungarian capital.
At the age of eight, he became a student at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he studied under such personalities as Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Ida Haendel, Igor Oistrakh, Ruggiero Ricci, Jaap van Zweden, Sandor Vegh and Dorothy DeLay. Already at the age of sixteen, Jozsef Lendvay could boast a perfect knowledge of the works of Niccolo Paganini, which set him apart from other outstanding violinists of his generation.
His impressive body of work includes performances with eminent soloists and conductors, including Giora Feidman, Yuri Bashmet, Andrea Bocelli, Sir Simon Rattel, Sir Yehudi Menuhin and Professor Krzysztof Penderecki. He has given numerous concerts in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Shanghai Concert Hall, Royal Albert Hall in London, the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Linder Auditorium in Johannesburg, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro. He also worked for many years with the Budapest Festival Orchestra (BFO) under the baton of maestro Iván Fischer. The violinist has also participated in major music festivals in Europe, such as Schleswig Holstein and MDR Musiksommer (Germany), Salzburger Festspiele and Feldkirch Festival (Austria), Brescia and Bergamo Festival (Italy), Edinburgh International Festival or BBC Proms in London. In 2009, he was the principal soloist at the Musiklandschaft Westfalen festival (Germany), and in 2012 he performed under the baton of Krzysztof Penderecki at the next edition.
The classically trained musician has won countless awards in his career - he has twice won the most important violin competition in the world, the "Tibor Varga" International Violin Competition in Sion. He was twice honoured with Europe's most important record award "Echo Klassik" for his debut album "Lendvay" and "Dancing Paris" recorded with the Alliage Quintet.
The artist's exceptional talent has been recognised not only by connoisseurs of classical music (Tibor Varga and Sion Valais awards in Switzerland, the Golden Cross of the President of the Republic of Hungary, the 'Echo' award in the category Klassik ohne Grenzen for the album 'Lendvay'), but also by major personalities from the world of politics and business. Jozsef Lendvay has performed, among others, at Castel Gandolfo at the invitation of Pope John Paul II, for President Mikhail Gorbachev, Chancellor Angela Merkel, Chancellor Helmut Kohl, President George Bush senior and Professor Reinhold Würth.
