Gracjan Szymczak

An outstanding Polish pianist of the young generation. He was born in 1986 in Wrocław. He is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Wrocław, where he completed his studies in the classes of Prof. G. Kurzyński (piano), Prof. L. Grzanka-Urbaniak (cello) and Prof. M. Pijarowski (conducting), gaining a diploma with distinction in each specialisation. He received his doctoral degree in 2012 and his doctor of musical arts degree in 2019.

He is the winner of more than 40 national and international piano competitions. He has received, among others: Special Prize for the pianist distinguished by his musicality at the 15th International F. Chopin Competition in Warsaw (2005); 3rd Prize at the National Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition (Warsaw 2007); 2nd Prize (first prize has not been awarded) at the Milosz Magin Competition (Łódź 2007); 2nd Prize at the Yamaha Foundation Scholarship Piano Competition (Gdańsk 2008); Grand Prix at the 13th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition (Warsaw 2008). M. Magin International Piano Competition (Paris, 2009); Special Prize at the 10th E. Grieg International Piano Competition (Oslo, 2009); 3rd Prize at the International Chopin Competition (Canberra, Australia, 2011) and 2nd Prize at the 14th "Pietro Argento" International Competition (Gioia del Colle, Italy, 2011).

He was one of seven Poles to take part in the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2010). He is also a laureate of several dozen nationwide music festivals. He has repeatedly been awarded the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the scholarship of the Mayor of Wrocław and the scholarship of the Piotr Kler Foundation. He has recorded for Polish Radio and TVP. He has 6 solo albums to his credit.

He is active in concert activity, having performed in many cities in Poland and in Germany, Scotland, Norway, the Czech Republic, Austria, France, Italy, Turkey, Sweden, China and Australia. In 2012, he joined his alma mater, where he has been employed as an assistant professor since 2015 and has served as Vice-Dean of the Instrumental Faculty since 2020. As a pedagogue, he is often invited to teach piano courses and to serve on juries of piano competitions. In 2019, he was awarded the Bronze Cross of Merit.
