Ricordanza Soloist Ensemble

The Wrocław Soloist Ensemble "Ricordanza" was founded in Wrocław in the year 2000 by the excellent violinist and pedagogue Victor Kuznetsov. The violinists he trained (young, talented, playing high-class instruments from the 18th and 19th centuries) were the germ of this ensemble. In its style of music-making, the "Ricordanza" reconciles two types of playing: solo playing and ensemble playing. On the one hand, every musician in this chamber orchestra has solo skills and often performs solo parts in stage or recorded concert works. On the other hand, the musicians - without sacrificing their own individuality and the qualities of their playing - together create the value that is the specific sound of "Ricordanza" and its style and interpretation. The shape and size of the ensemble changes - depending on the works performed and the spatial conditions of the concert hall. Thus, at times the 'Ricordanza' appears on stage as a formation of a few musicians, at other times as a small chamber orchestra, and again, when performing symphonic works, as an orchestra of forty musicians. The ensemble performs music of the Italian and German Baroque (concertos by A. Vivaldi, T. Albinoni, A. Corelli, J. S. Bach), Classicism and Romanticism, as well as contemporary works and popular music and jazz. A valuable part of the programmes of 'Ricordanza' are unknown works, brought out of oblivion, as well as works performed for the first time. Performers collaborating with the ensemble include musicians of such calibre as Ida Haendel, Caroline-Haffner-Murat, Natalia-Gutman, Grigori Żyslin, Janusz Olejniczak, Ilia Gringolz, Wiesław Ochman, Leszek Możdżer, Lars Danielsson, Tomasz Strahl, Ilia Grubert. The ensemble has given concerts in many European countries (including Norway, France, Spain, Switzerland and Germany), taken part in many festivals and appeared in famous concert halls. It is the only Polish orchestra to perform regularly at the Berlin Philharmonic as the Berlin Baroque Orchestra and the Berlin Festival Orchestra. Of "Ricordanza's" recordings, the most noteworthy are: a CD with works by Albinoni and Vivaldi published on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the University of Wrocław (2002), a reconstruction of a concert given by Niccolò Paganini in 1829 at the University of Wrocław (2003, conducted by Stefan Bevier), a CD with music by Józef Zeidler (2007, awarded the "Fryderyk" prize) and a selection of famous overtures from Viennese operetta (2007, conducted by Jan Ślęk). The patron of "Ricordanza" is the Rector of Wrocław University, and its institutional backing is the Wrocław Concert Society.
